I had a great time, as always, at Bluesfest this year. However, there were two changes this year that I didn't love. The biggest issue this year was the volume. We always sit in the exact same spot, so I was definitely comparing apples to apples. I can only assume that the hotel next door requested a volume decrease. Since they sell out every year because of the festival I really think they can just deal.
The other issue was a blessing and a curse. The Bluesfest was able to get Robert Plant to headline the final day this year. I'm thrilled that we can get acts that big, and that it means more money for the Oregon Food Bank. Unfortunately, it made a drastic difference in the overall feel and spirit that the festival has had in years past. We arrived at 9am to set up our chairs and enjoy the day. Around 7pm the people that came to see "Zeppelin" for $50 arrived and started pushing and bitching and complaining. Security was so busy that they couldn't possibly keep up with the demands. It went from being Bluesfest to a classic rock show at the Sleep Country Amphitheater. It was a clash of cultures in so many ways. It was a very unfortunate way to end such a lovely weekend. That said I will go back next year, but I will plan my trip more thoughtfully.
